Create Attributes
On the Attributes page, you'll find a complete list of all your attributes. The list is presented in columns, providing essential attribute parameters, such as the attribute label, input type, and visibility to sellers and buyers.
Create an attribute
- From the Dashboard, go to Catalog -> Attributes.
- Select Create attribute.
- Complete the Summary section.
- Add attribute values.
- Adjust the settings in the Properties section, as required.
- (Optional) Add metadata, as required.
- Select Save.
Summary fields
In the Summary section, enter values for the following fields:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Label | This is the name of the attribute that will be visible to your buyers and sellers. For example, "Size" for an attribute representing different sizes. |
Attribute code | This field only appears after saving and is automatically populated with a default value. The attribute code is used to uniquely identify the attribute and distinguish between different attributes with similar names. For example, differentiating shoe size from t-shirt size. The attribute code must be unique. Use dashes instead of spaces to separate words. |
Input type | Choose what input type this attribute captures. Your choice of input type impacts what format of attribute values you can add. |
Value required | If the toggle is active, sellers must fill in this attribute when adding associated products or variants. |
Add attribute values
Attribute values are specific options or choices associated with a product attribute. They represent the options that a seller can choose from when completing an attribute field.
- Single or multi-select value
- Date value
Select Add value.
In the Add value window, specify the following fields:
Field Description Name Enter the display name that will appear to customers and staff members. Value (Optional) Enter any additional data you want to store about the attribute value, such as a HEX color code, link, or other information. The value is not displayed to sellers or buyers unless otherwise configured in your storefront. Select Save.
Unlike dropdown and multi-select attributes, date attributes appear with a calendar tool for sellers editing products or variants. When a seller selects a date, the attribute value is automatically added to the attribute. Optionally, as a marketplace operator, you can also add date attribute values manually.
Select Assign date.
In the Add date window, specify the following fields:
Field Description Name Enter the name. Date Select the date from the calendar. Select Save.
Properties fields
The Properties section is divided into two parts. These sections allow you to define how your attribute should behave in the storefront and Dashboard.
Storefront properties
Field | Description |
---|---|
Show in product filters | Whether to show this attribute as a filter option in your storefront. If enabled, customers can filter products by this attribute. |
Position in product filters | Indicates the order of attributes in the product filter list in your storefront. Enter a number to specify the attribute's position. A lower number denotes a higher position. |
Show in product details | Whether the attribute is visible on product detail pages in your storefront. If enabled, the attribute will be displayed when viewing the product. |
Dashboard properties
Field | Description |
---|---|
Use for filtering | Indicates if this attribute is available as a filtering option on the product list page. |
Add to column options | Allows using this attribute as one of the column options on the product list page. |
Add metadata
After saving an attribute, you can add private and public metadata.
- Expand the Advanced section.
- Under Metadata and Private Metadata, select Add Field to add a custom key-value pair.
To learn more about object metadata, see the Developer's Guide.
Edit or delete an attribute
- Go to Catalog -> Attributes.
- To edit, enter your changes and click Save.
- To delete, click the Delete button and confirm that you wish to proceed with the deletion.
Make sure to remove attributes with caution. There may be dependent product types related to them. Inspect the existing dependencies before continuing.
