  2. Open the product to which you want to add a variant.

Variant fields

Pricing

FieldUsage
Price(Required) Enter the base selling price for the variant. The currency shown on the left is populated from your marketplace default currency. The final price shown to buyers in the storefront will depend on your marketplace tax treatment and any sales or discounts.
Cost

(Optional) Use this field to store the cost of the variant. This does not affect the price buyers will pay for the product.

There are different use cases for this field, each one depending on your marketplace implementation. You could use this field to enter the cost or acquire or produce the variant, to allow calculating and reporting on profit margins. Or you could use this field to show a compare at price in the storefront.

Require quote pricingEnable this field to require a quote order before this variant can be purchased.
Displaying localized prices

Nautical operates and charges in the store’s default currency but is capable of displaying an estimated amount in the user’s local currency.

  • Locale database (Unicode CLDR) is used to determine the local currency
  • Open Exchange Rates is used to provide up-to-date exchange rates

Attributes

When creating a new product, your attributes are assigned automatically based on the product type. Based on these attributes, you can create variants of your product.

Images

Under Images you can select images for the product variant. You can either upload an image or select a photo from the parent product.

note

Any images uploaded to a variant will be added to the parent product.

Visibility

You can control whether the variant is visible to buyers in the storefront from the Visibility section.

FieldUsage
Unpublished / Scheduled / PublishedWhether to publish the product to the storefront.
Schedule publish dateIf the Published field is set to Scheduled, enter a future date at which the product will be published to the storefront. This allows you to hold some of your products unavailable to your buyers until the publication date. They are simply not listed in your storefront.
StatusThe approval status for the variant. Variants must be approved to be visible in the storefront.
note

The parent product's published status takes precedence over all variants' published status. In other words, if a product is not published, all variants will remain hidden from the storefront until the product itself is published.
