Add and manage variants
Variants represent the different options with which a product is available for purchase, for example the size or color. The variant attributes in a product template define the different options the products in that template are available. You can create and edit variants after creating a new product.

Before adding a variant to a product, you must create and define its attributes. Learn more about variant attributes and how to create them here.
Step 1: Add the variant's attribute to the product's template.

- Select the product template you want to add the variant's attributes to. This is the template that contains the product you want to add a variant to.

- Check the checkbox for each variant attribute to be assigned.
- Select Assign attributes.
Step 2: Add the variant to the product.

Variant fields
Field | Usage |
---|---|
Name | Enter a name for your variant. |
Price | (Required) Enter the base selling price for the variant. The currency shown on the left is populated from your marketplace default currency. The final price shown to buyers in the storefront will depend on your marketplace tax treatment and any sales or discounts. |
Cost | (Optional) Use this field to store the cost of the variant. This does not affect the price buyers will pay for the product. There are different use cases for this field, each one depending on your marketplace implementation. You could use this field to enter the cost or acquire or produce the variant, to allow calculating and reporting on profit margins. Or you could use this field to show a compare at price in the storefront. |
Images | Upload images that best describe your variant. Any images uploaded to a variant will be added to the parent product. |
Attributes
When creating a new product, your attributes are assigned automatically based on the product template. Based on these attributes, you can create variants of your product.
Visibility
You can control whether the variant is visible to buyers in the storefront from the Visibility section.
Field | Usage |
---|---|
Unpublished / Scheduled / Published | Whether to publish the product to the storefront. |
Schedule publish date | If the Published field is set to Scheduled, enter a future date at which the product will be published to the storefront. This allows you to hold some of your products unavailable to your buyers until the publication date. They are simply not listed in your storefront. |
Status | The approval status for the variant. Variants must be approved to be visible in the storefront. |
The parent product's published status takes precedence over all variants' published status. In other words, if a product is not published, all variants will remain hidden from the storefront until the product itself is published.
Dimensions and inventory
Field / Section | Usage |
---|---|
Variant dimensions | Enter the variant weight, height, length, and width. These are used to calculate shipping costs for weight-based shipping rates. If you leave this blank, the values from the parent product are used by default. |
SKU (stock keeping unit) | This is a unique code you assign to every item in your inventory. Enter the stock keeping unit identifier for this variant. |
Actively track inventory | This setting is enabled by default and activates the inventory tracking feature, which automatically detects stock availability in the storefront. Disable this toggle to turn off inventory tracking. |
Add warehouse | Add a warehouse and stock numbers available for this variant. |
To learn how to add and manage stock, see the assign product inventory topic.
