Cancellation guide

This article will guide you through the process of deactivating your marketplace. Before cancelling a subscription and deactivating a marketplace, you need to have the following requirements:

  1. You are the marketplace operator and have full access to the marketplace. See how permissions work for more details.
  2. You have an existing subscription with Nautical Commerce.
  3. You have reviewed and understand the Terms of service.

Marketplace deactivation checklist

When deactivating your marketplace, there is a checklist you should follow. While this list is inexhaustible, it focuses on key aspects to address when closing down a marketplace.

With deactivation, it is recommended that your marketplace is “sunset” over a timeframe.

Financial obligations

  • Ensure all your payouts have been received before deactivating your marketplace. Not doing this could result to troubleshooting a failed payout. This will require you to reactivate your marketplace.
  • Confirm your marketplace has no outstanding balance before deactivating. You can audit your transaction fees, discounts, app subscriptions, warehouse rent, or shipping charges to verify this.
  • Review and save your order and payout history. You can download your order history through the Nautical Commerce dashboard. Your payout history can be downloaded using any of our integrated payout providers (Stripe, PayPal, or Trolley).
  • Nautical Commerce works with a number of third-party apps. Note that cancelling your subscription won’t affect your service with these apps. Ensure you also cancel any third party services directly from these apps to avoid being billed after deactivation.

Customer responsibility

  • Consider how deactivating your marketplace will affect your customers with existing or unfulfilled orders. Subscriptions, preorders, or digital products will need to be managed with refunds or cancellations where these conditions apply.
  • Customers can still issue chargebacks after you’ve deactivated your marketplace. You may not be able to dispute the chargeback as you won’t be able to submit the needed evidence through your Nautical dashboard.

Handling your data

Nautical Commerce guarantees your data for two years in case you decide to reopen your marketplace. You can always request for this data to be deleted before the expiration of this timeframe.

If you have a custom domain, ensure you take it off the Nautical Commerce dashboard before deactivating your marketplace else you may not be able to use it for another website.
